Lakshadweep is a tropical archipelago consisting of 36 coral islands, atolls, and reefs, though only 10 islands are inhabited. It is India’s smallest Union Territory both in area and population.
Geography & Climate
Located about 200-400 km off the southwest coast of Kerala.
Comprises 12 atolls, 3 reefs, and 21 submerged sandbanks.
Tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round and monsoon rains from June to September.
Culture & People
The majority of the population is Muslim, and Malayalam and Mahl (a dialect of Dhivehi) are widely spoken.
The culture is similar to that of Kerala due to historical connections.
The traditional economy is based on fishing, coconut farming, and coir production.
