Lakshadweep is a tropical archipelago consisting of 36 coral islands, atolls, and reefs, though only 10 islands are inhabited. It is India’s smallest Union Territory both in area and population.

Geography & Climate

• Located about 200-400 km off the southwest coast of Kerala.
• Comprises 12 atolls, 3 reefs, and 21 submerged sandbanks.
• Tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round and monsoon rains from June to September.

Culture & People

• The majority of the population is Muslim, and Malayalam and Mahl (a dialect of Dhivehi) are widely spoken.
• The culture is similar to that of Kerala due to historical connections.
• The traditional economy is based on fishing, coconut farming, and coir production.
